Spotlight on Kael Alford

Posted On June 29, 2012 by Jennifer Schwartz

We work with amazingly talented artists on a daily basis. All of them are doing new, inspiring things and it’s a joy to watch them grow. Recently, Kael Alford has been the subject of lots of press. Her work is currently hanging at the High Museum of Art as part of the “Picturing the South” series. Her series Bottom of da Boot is documentary project about the disappearing coast of Louisiana, home to many Native American communities. So, who’s been interested in Kael’s work?

Just the New York Times

NPR Picture Show

And Atlanta’s Arts Critic ATL

But that’s not all. Kael was awarded the Michael P. Smith Fund for Documentary Photography by the New Orleans Photo Alliance. The MPS Fund awards one $5,000 grant annually to a Gulf Coast photographer whose work combines artistic excellence and a sustained commitment to a long-term cultural documentary project.

As our heart swells with pride, there’s a few events with Kael around town we think you should attend. On July 19th, Kael will give an artist lecture at the High at 6:30. On the 20th, Fall Line Press (who published a book featuring photographs from Bottom of da Boot) will throw a Cajun-style party at the gallery. Drinks, music, food… you can count us in!
